Curriculum

At the end of the Periodontics PG program, the candidate should have the following competent skills and knowledge:

1. Thorough understanding of the normal anatomy and functions of
periodontium, competent to differentiate periodontal health from disease.

2. To have an understanding of etiopathogenesis of periodontal diseases for
early diagnosis and prevention of periodontal disease.

3. Identify the various risk factors, systemic influences and prognostic
factors associated with periodontal diseases for creating awareness and
motivating the patient to maintain stable periodontal health.

4. Should be able to accurately diagnose the periodontal status of the
patient to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for the patient's
needs.

5. Gain adequate clinical skills in various anaesthesia techniques that are to
be used for different surgical procedures in periodontics and implantology.

6. To perform all the periodontal surgical procedures with a sound knowledge
on the principles of periodontal instrumentation.

7. Ability to perform various non surgical periodontal therapeutic approaches
for management of different forms of periodontal disease.

8. Should understand the rationale for periodontal flap therapy and must
acquire the clinical skills to perform all the different techniques for
Periodontal pocket management.

9. To be able to identify the various mucogingival deformities and perform the
desired techniques to achieve esthetically and functionally optimal results .

10. Should be able to analyse the indications and perform various laser
assisted periodontal/peri implant surgical procedures.

11. To learn the art of using microscopes and to perform all Microsurgical
periodontal procedures.

12. Should have the ability to diagnose and perform various complex hard
and soft tissue regenerative procedures.

13. Managing complex cases with an interdisciplinary approach for full mouth
rehabilitation.

14. To have sufficient knowledge regarding treatment planning, surgical and
prosthetic management of dental implants and peri implantitis
management

15. To have concise knowledge on periodontal maintenance protocol and
supportive periodontal therapy to aid in long term successful results.

16. Widen intellectual horizons by researching new information and
contributing to the existing literature with novel discoveries to enhance the
quality of health care for the society.

Module based learning

  • The curriculum is divided into quartiles composed of modules. 

  • At the end of every quartile, a thorough assessment comprising of practical and theory examination is conducted.

  • It is evaluated with External examiners to ensure that the module has been completed successfully.
